About Northland Small Businesses

A cleaner way to connect Northland businesses.

NSB started as a Facebook group for Northland business owners, but Facebook comment threads are a terrible long-term directory. This site gives the community a cleaner way to find, refer, and support active businesses serving the Northland.

The vibe check

The group works when posts help actual owners.

NSB isn't a feed for lazy promos. It's a place to ask better business questions, share useful referrals, and make it easier for Northland people to trust who they're hiring.

Google Business Profile leads

For the service businesses in here: are you getting real leads from your Google Business Profile lately, or mostly website calls and referrals?

We've had a weird month. Views are up, calls are down, and I am trying to figure out whether it's our photos, service areas, reviews, or just spring being spring.

Check the searches tab first. If impressions are up but calls are down, I would look at categories, services, and the first three photos.

Reviews moved the needle for us. We ask right after the job, not two weeks later when everyone has moved on.

Ask useful questions

Pricing, hiring, vendors, insurance, bookkeeping, systems, slow seasons, weird customer situations. Bring the real stuff.

Refer with context

A name is fine. A name with what they do well, where they serve, and why you trust them is better.

Make it searchable

The group is for conversation. The directory holds the details people need once they're ready to hire or refer.

Build real local ties

The best business groups get useful before they get loud. NSB is built for owners who want both referrals and better conversations.

What this is for

  • Finding local businesses
  • Sharing referrals
  • Helping owners get seen
  • Making business information easier to search
  • Supporting real Northland connections

What this isn't for

This isn't a dumping ground for random promo posts, outdated business cards, or businesses that don't serve the Northland. Listings are reviewed so the directory stays useful.

Better posts make better referrals.

A strong local business group should help owners think, solve, hire, refer, and stay visible without turning the feed into a pile of drive-by ads. That's the NSB lane.
